Joe Dumars finally made good on his word.
His offseason promise to shake the Pistons core has been fulfilled, and a trade deal has been finalized that will send Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets in return for one of the league’s premiere (but aging) point guards: Allen Iverson.
There’s word that Cheikh Samb may also be heading to Denver as well.
I wholeheartedly give my stamp of approval to this trade. Allen Iverson fits much, much better into the scoring style that Michael Curry has delivered. AI and Rodney Stuckey could develop into a beautiful relationship.
So long, Chauncey and Dice- it’s been fun…
I’ll keep you up-to-date.

Thank you god almighty! This is a move that make’s so much sense on so many different levels. We’re gonna miss you Chauncey, but Joe D. did you good. He sent you somewhere you actually wouldn’t mind going, hope you have good times back at home. And to A.I., welcome to Detroit, let’s win that title now. And let’s play some DEEETROOIIIITTT BAAAASKEEETBAALLLLLL!!!

AI will be better for the Pistons in almost every way. I can’t wait to see Iverson and Stuckey, two pure scorers, side by side… I can taste that championship!!

When Mcdyess returns to the Pistons, he should be give a standing ovation for making this trade happen at his expense.

I’m going to be the devil’s advocate or voice of reason here. While AI certainly shakes things up in Mo’ town (or Auburn Hills) and the Piston’s gain cap space, I don’t think he’s a better ‘fit’ than Chauncey. He’s too offensive-minded for the Piston’s balanced scoring attack and play-within-the-team philosophy. While I hope he does prove me wrong, I think the trade hampers their chemistry.

What was left of the days of the Pistons’ defensive prowess left with Flip Saunders. Yes, they’re still an above-average defensive team, but Curry pushes offense.
In 3 games, Detroit has allowed 101.5 points per game, as opposed to around 85 in 2004.
It hampers their chemistry, just as any trade would, but Iverson should fit well enough with Curry’s system.
