Pistons’ Run Ends At 11, Celtics Win 92-85

rasheed-wallace-kevin-garnett-1-5-07.jpgApologies for the late recap, winter move-in duties called.

Nevertheless, missed opportunities got the best of the Pistons Saturday night as they fell to the Boston Celtics, who continued their win streak while Detroit ended their own.

ppbullet2.pngDetroit once again fell victim to an unlikely hero (Danny Gibson comes to mind).  This time it came at the hands of the Celtics’ Glen “Big Baby” Davis.  Davis led the team in points with 20 off the bench, the first time the leading scorer wasn’t one of the Big Three.  Davis simply could not miss- and that, in combination with lackluster interior defense from our big guys, proved to be the dagger for the Pistons.

ppbullet2.pngChauncey’s long-range success might be getting to his head a little.  Although he knocked down three from downtown, he attempted nine, including an extremely unnecessary airball from downtown to tie the game with 33 seconds left.  He also missed three key free throws in the 4th.

ppbullet2.pngRip and Sheed had good nights.  Notably, Rip has 18 points and 8 assists and Sheed had  16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

jason-maxiell-kevin-garnett-1-5-08.jpgppbullet2.pngThe superstar-biased refereeing was as bad as I’ve seen it in a while.  Garnett and Pierce were getting every call- Dwyane Wade style.  There were two clean blocks on KG that got called for shooting fouls, costing the Pistons four much-needed points.

ppbullet2.pngThe Pistons went on an incredible 17-0 run to cap the 1st period.  They were down 10-3 but notched it all the way up to 20-10, largely due in part to a monster quarter by Jason Maxiell.

ppbullet2.pngIf these teams do end up meeting in the playoffs, I’d say it’s going to be quite a series judging by the last two games they’ve played.  Almost a surefire seven-gamer.

Exciting schedule for the Pistons this week.  Their 4-game road trip will include Dallas and San Antonio on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a reunion with Nazr Mohammed and the Herrmann-less, Brezec-less Bobcats on Saturday.

Let me start by saying that KG use to be one of my favorite players until the Maxiell incident…now I know that him and Dice had a little fight but that incident with Jason killed it for me. He’s a punk cause when he got into a fight with the dude that use to play at Sacramento…he didn’t do anything but look like he was about to cry…now since he got a winning team he too damn conceited and cocky to act like he can’t get his shot blocked or can’t be defended…we would’ve won that game if we wouldn’t let Big Baby Glen Davis in the lane like they did LeBron last year!!! But in late May we are going to beat them in the Eastern Conference Finals no doubt!!!! Paul and James Posey and whoever else like Eddie House better shut their mouths cause we are still the team in the East to beat and everybody better recognize forreal

    Pistons Lover,
I’m president of the “KG is a PUNK” club.

There was an incident a few years back between the T-Wolves and Spurs. Duncan was trying to be a peace maker in the scrum and Garnett started smack talking THE BACK OF DUNCAN’S HEAD. Not even to his face. Then KG shoved the BACK of Duncan’s head and Timmy turned around and gave him a WTF? kind of look.

I know how ya feel, Pistons Lover. KG is getting way too cocky, because as much as the refs thought the block was a foul, KG knew that it was clean. To get all up in someone’s face like that after getting blocked is like saying “Don’t you know who I am? I’m Kevin Garnett, you can’t block me.”
He’s in denial that there is a new generation of players on their way in, Max being part of that. To get blocked in mid-dunk by a 3rd year young gun on his way to the top must’ve really eaten him up, and picking a fight was the only way he could defend his conceited honor.
