Varejao on Cleveland: ‘I don’t want to play there anymore’
Looks like the long drought of Kobelenko-like drama is finally over.
It appears as if our flopping friend down south is unhappy with the way re-signing negotiations have been handled and now wants out of Cleveland.
From ESPN:
“I wanted to come back,” he said. “I love the fans and I really love my teammates. But there are others there that have made it very difficult. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t want to play there anymore. I’m just hoping for a sign-and-trade at this point.”
[...]
“Several other teams told ESPN.com they would have offered Varejao their full midlevel exception (starting at $5.356 million per season), but Varejao has not been willing to sign for that amount because he believes (a) the Cavs would match, and (b) he’s worth more.”
I don’t know just how much Varejao thinks he’s worth over five and a half million a season, but that seems pretty fair to me. Jason Maxiell, granted his salary will rise, is bagging just over a million this year and is averaging more points and almost as many rebounds as Varejao did last season.
I don’t really care where Varejao goes, but if he’s had any thoughts of wearing a Pistons uniform (which I doubt he has, thankfully), let this serve as a nostalgic warning:

Andy is 60% of what’s wrong with today’s NBA: players who aren’t even trying to get to the hoop.
